Ingredients
- 500 g macaroni, preferably large elbow macaroni
- 1 l cream, for the béchamel sauce
- 400 g mozzarella
- 100 g cheddar
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the macaroni until al dente according to the package instructions, then drain it in a colander.
- Warm the cream in a separate pot over medium heat without bringing it to a boil. Gradually add the grated mozzarella and cheddar, stirring until the cheese is fully melted and the sauce is smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Return the macaroni to the pot, pour the hot cheese sauce over it, and mix until the pasta is evenly coated.
- Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Transfer the macaroni to a baking dish and bake for 20-30 minutes, until a golden crust appears.
- Let the baked macaroni cool for about 8 minutes before serving so the cheese becomes stretchier.
This version keeps the cheese blend deliberately simple: mozzarella makes up 80% of the cheese for the long pull, while cheddar supplies the remaining 20%. The extracted recipe recommends resting the dish for about eight minutes after baking to make the cheese stretch more cleanly when served.
